The University

California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is one of the most highly regarded institutions of higher education in Inland Southern California. Today, CSUSB serves more than 19,400 students.

Located along the northern border of San Bernardino and the foothills of the San Bernardino mountains, the California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) campus features over 40 buildings on a 441-acre campus. The college is known for its nationally recognized business school, state-of-the-art observatory, and competitive athletics programs. Founded in 1960 and opened in 1965, the school began with three campus buildings before adding a library in 1970 and eventually expanding into the major educational institution that CSUSB has become today.

Approximately 19,400 students enrolled at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) at the start of the 2020 academic year. Of these students, 17,123 were undergraduate students while another 2,281 were enrolled as graduate or professional students. The university attracted nearly 26,800 applicants for the fall 2020 semester, with 2,286 first-year, first-time freshmen enrolling.

California State University, San Bernardino heavily encourages all first-year freshmen to live on campus. However, there is no requirement that first-year students must live on campus. On-campus housing is only able to accommodate just over 1,800 students, leaving over 17,500 (91%) of the student body in need of off-campus housing.
